Postage Stamp Paintings, 7th Grade

7th grade worked on creating postage stamps in a huge 24 x 36 size. We first reaserached North American animals for our stamps, as all US postage stamps must contain US imagery. Each stamp had to have the name of the animal, USA and 45 cents. Emphasis on this unit was on texture and paint mixing. Nice work!

6th Grade Art class visits the Norman Rockwell Museum

My current 6th grade class is really into portraiture & storytelling. The Norman Rockwell Museum is just a hop, skip and a jump away in nearby Stockbridge, MA. The Museum Docents were wonderful and Mr. Dodge brought history into the mix when he talked about Rockwell's Four Freedoms paintings. He even showed us his actual ration cards he had when he was a child during WWII. The local history of Rockwell's paintings was interesting as many of the students reside in the towns where Rockwell painted so many of his paintings. We really enjoyed looking at all of the Saturday Evening Post Covers and exploring the grounds outside. The students were polite and engaged and had many questions and comments they made during the visit. Thank You also to our chaperones, Mrs. Moran, Mrs. Cami & Mrs. Russell, as well as our high school senior art intern Hannah.

Alter(ed) Ego, 6th Grade

In 6th grade, we talked about how colors can evoke emotions. For example, red can mean love or anger. The students took self portraits with cameras, and tried to match their emotions to the colored backgrounds. Then, they enhanced their photos even more using picnik.com and Photoshop. We also made a merge photo that had the 2 photos in one. This photo acted as the contrast between the two personalities. This merge photo is the photo in the shadow box that you can see straight-on. The other two alter egos, each can be seen from either side. So, there are three different images that appear when viewed from three angles.
