Star Books Part 1, 8th Grade

My 8th grade Book Arts students made these awesome & creative star books based on "The History of..." something they were passionate about.
Here are just a few of the many excellent examples. I will try to make another video with more of books later next week.

Even though school ended this past monday, an art teacher's job never ends when school ends. There is the art room, which took me until yesterday to clean, there will be summer curriculum work, and there will be art.

So enjoy & I hope to get part 2 up next week!

New Art Murals!

Art club finished their art history mural just in the nick of time! We finished the 2nd to last day of school and we made sure we had time for a little party that day as well. The premise of the art history mural was this: each student picked a famous work of art, then changed it to make it uniquely theirs.
The next step is over the summer, real frames will be hung on the walls, so each painting will be finished off properly as the work of art it is! (Click on each photo to see big)

Party!

Harry with "Cola Soup" inspired by Warhol's "Campbell's Soup Cans"

Anna Grace with "Dog in Mirror" inspired by Lichtenstein's  "Girl in Mirror"

Monoprints, 7th & 8th grade

7th & 8th grade students made additive and subtractive monoprints. Trial & error were constants with monoprints as students had to experiment with how much ink to use, how much to take off, how wet the paper should be and how much pressure to use making the print.

Trace Monotypes, 7th grade

These trace monotypes are wonderful! 7th grade students studied Impressionist painters like Monet, Degas and Renoir and drew a landscape that was inspired by Impressionist paintings. Next they traced their drawing directly onto another piece of paper that had ink rolled evenly under it on a piece of plexiglass. The results were amazing! Because they used the drawing over and over again, they could make multiple prints and they made sure to use a different colored pencil each time so they could see what still needed to be traced over.
