Hundertwasser Crayon Batik Buildings, 5th Grade

Students made these after studying Hundertwasser's architecture and paintings. Hundertwasser believed straight lines should not be present in architecture as they do not exist in nature. He also believed that architecture should be whimsical and available to everyone. The students drew their buildings after picking out color harmonies. Then, they crumpled up their drawings and create lines in the crayon wax.Finally, they covered the wrinkly unfolded drawings in watered down tempera and blotted some of the paint off. This gave the look of a batik. Nice job 5th grade students!
