The 5th graders spent a week down at the Project Sprout Garden drawing from Veggies and Fruits with Watercolor Pencils. Then they added a wet paintbrush and turned the drawings into paintings. Nice work! These will be on display this Spring at the Route 7 Grill/Project Sprout Fundraiser.

All grades have been very busy these past weeks creating their portfolio projects. This is our first full week of school, so we are all getting in the swing of things and becoming creative & industrious artists!

Summer Reading Fellowship

Another exciting thing I did this summer is I participated in a summer reading fellowship through my school district. I, along with teachers Mr. Rosenthal and Ms. Young who work at Monument Mountain High & Ms. Salinetti who works at Muddy Brook Elementary read several books about education. We held book club meetings to discuss the books at length. In the end, our challenge was to produce something visual that could explain what good teaching and learning in our school district looks like. Our format was a star book. Using my new knowlege from my receent Summer Studios experience at Boston University, we created a star book that showed through pictures and works what good teaching & learning looks like.

Cats! A benefit for Purradise!

Purradise is a wonderful local cat shelter. 6th grade students created these works of art with oil pastel, as they thought carefully about texture. A number of the students brought in photos of their own cats to use as models. The artwork will be auctioned off at a benefit gala for Purradise on July 22 at Crissy Farm in Great Barrington. 6th grade students were very generous to donate their artwork as they know how important helping our furry friends is.

Stop Motion Animation inspired by the Art of Keith Haring! 5th grade

My 5th grade class loves the artwork of Keith Haring! The bright forms and shapes combined with movement are are perfect for stop motion animation. Students worked in groups and created figures with sculpey, and made backgrounds and props to tell a story. They did a great job!
